What is interventional pulmonology? It is a specialised branch of chest medicine that uses minimally invasive procedures, mainly through a bronchoscope (a thin, flexible tube passed into the airways), to diagnose and treat lung and airway diseases, often without open surgery and with a shorter hospital stay.

• EBUS and radial-probe EBUS: ultrasound-guided sampling of enlarged lymph nodes and lung nodules, helping diagnose lung cancer, TB and other conditions
• Bronchoscopic lung cryobiopsy: larger, better-quality lung tissue samples for interstitial lung disease
• Tracheal stenting and balloon tracheoplasty: opening narrowed airways to relieve severe breathlessness
• Rigid bronchoscopy and tumour debulking: removing airway blockages
• Flexi-rigid pleuroscopy: diagnosing and treating fluid around the lungs, often as a day-care procedure
• Foreign body removal from the airways

Critical care and ECMO. Alongside interventional pulmonology, Dr. Viradia manages critically ill patients with severe lung failure, ARDS, sepsis and acute lung injury, including advanced organ support with ECMO.
